Benfica set an unwanted record in the UEFA Champions League by becoming the first Portuguese side to finish the group stage without a point after a 2-0 defeat to FC Basel at the Estádio da Luz on Tuesday night.

The Águias, who had already been eliminated from the competition following a 2-0 away defeat to CSKA Moscow, found themselves behind early on when Mohamed Elyounoussi headed home in the fifth minute. Dimitri Oberlin's second half diving header made it two to seal the Swiss Champions' progression to the last 16 of the Champions League.

Rui Vitória has shuffled his pack for the visit of FC Basel, with Benfica already eliminated from the Champions League and unable to qualify for the Europa League.

Álex Grimaldo and Franco Cervi have been rested. Filipe Augusto has returned to training following his right foot injury, but is not included. Douglas returns and Gabriel Barbosa has earned a rare call-up.

Filip Krovinović is ineligible for European competition. João Carvalho comes in, while Keaton Parks drops out. Rúben Dias is still recovering after his appendix removal.

Benfica bowed out of European competition with a 2-0 defeat to CSKA Moscow at the VEB Arena on Wednesday night, in what was their penultimate match in Champions League Group A.

Mile Svilar is still suffering from flu and Júlio César has back problems, so Bruno Varela looks set to keep his place in goal. 19-year-old Fábio Duarte, who has yet to make an appearance for Benfica B, will travel as his deputy.

Rúben Dias is still recovering after an operation to remove his appendix. Gabriel Barbosa and Keaton Parks drop out, while Eliseu, Ljubomir Fejsa, Filipe Augusto, João Carvalho and Andrija Živković return. Filip Krovinović is not registered for the Champions League.

Wednesday's match at the VEB Arena will kick off at 17:00 UK and Portuguese time, and will be officiated by German referee Deniz Aytekin.

Benfica’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League were dealt an almost fatal blow as they were defeated 2-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

Rui Vitória has named 22 players in his preliminary squad for Matchweek 4 of the UEFA Champions League. André Almeida and Luisão are both suspended, so Eliseu, Douglas and Jardel have been brought in to bolster Benfica's defensive options.

Filip Krovinović is not registered for European competition, and is replaced by Rafa Silva, who returns to the squad after an absence of three games. Bruno Varela is also included after three matches in the wilderness.

Benfica’s miserable run in the UEFA Champions League continued as they were defeated 1-0 by former manager José Mourinho’s Manchester United side at the Estádio da Luz on Wednesday night.

With the exception of André Almeida (suspended) and Filip Krovinović (ineligible), Rui Vitória has had the luxury of a full-strength squad to pick from for the visit of Manchester United.

Lisandro López is back in favour after a lengthy absence, but Jardel and Rafa Silva have been left out by choice. Bruno Varela has been dropped, and is replaced by the fit-again Júlio César. Eliseu has recovered from a thigh strain, while Jonas has overcome his back complaint.

Andreas Samaris is also included, as his suspension only applies to domestic matches. Andrija Živković and Eduardo Salvio return to the fold, with Branimir Kalaica and Martin Chrien making way.

Benfica’s disappointing start to their UEFA Champions League campaign continued as they were thrashed 5-0 by Group A opponents Basel at St. Jakob-Park on Wednesday night.

Benfica have taken 21 players to Switzerland for Matchweek 2 of the UEFA Champions League. The big news is the addition of 18-year-old goalkeeper Mile Svilar, and the return of of Eduardo Salvio after a sprained ankle.

Eliseu is included after being left out against Paços de Ferreira, but Lisandro López and Douglas remain out of favour. Filip Krovinović is unavailable, as he was not registered for European competition. Diogo Gonçalves has been dropped.
