Benfica hosted Borussia Dortmund at the Estádio da Luz on Tuesday night, in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie. The German side came into the game off the back of a 2-1 defeat to the Bundesliga’s bottom club, SV Darmstadt, whereas Benfica were buoyant after their 3-0 victory over Arouca.

Benfica go head-to-head with German giants Borussia Dortmund in Lisbon tonight, in a mouth-watering Champions League round of 16 encounter. On the eve of the game, Rui Vitória faced the press at the Estádio da Luz, and was asked to analyse the principal strengths of Benfica’s illustrious opponents.

Squad List: Benfica x Borussia Dortmund

Rui Vitória has named a 21-man preliminary squad for the visit of Borussia Dortmund. Jonas has been included, but is a major doubt after missing training on Monday with neck pain. Andrija Živković serves a one-game suspension carried over from his time at Partizan Belgrade.

Lisandro López is still absent after colliding with the post against Moreirense in January. Álex Grimaldo has been removed from Benfica's European roster as he continues his rehabilitation from abdominal surgery.

Eduardo Salvio has recovered from his ankle injury, and January signing Pedro Pereira is included for the first time. If selected, Luisão will make his 500th competitive appearance for the club.

Tuesday's game at the Estádio da Luz begins at 19:45 local time, and will be officiated by Italian referee Nicola Rizzoli.

There were mixed emotions for Benfica on Tuesday night, as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Napoli at the Estádio da Luz, but still qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League. The Eagles knew that they would progress regardless of defeat if Besiktas failed to overcome Dynamo Kyiv in Ukraine. Dynamo raced into a 4-0 half-time lead, and the news clearly filtered through to the players, leading to a limp and lifeless second half display in Lisbon. Callejón and Mertens got the goals for the Italians, before Raúl snatched a late consolation.

Benfica do battle with Italian giants Napoli at the Estádio da Luz tonight, with their Champions League fate hanging in the balance. If Beşiktaş lose or draw with Dynamo Kyiv in Ukraine this evening, the Eagles are guaranteed to progress to the last 16. If Beşiktaş triumph, however, then Benfica must win to remain in the competition.

There are no surprises in Rui Vitória's squad to face Napoli on Matchday 6 of the Champions League group stage. Benfica are still without Álex Grimaldo (abdomen), Eliseu (thigh), André Horta (thigh) and Jonas (foot). Danilo and Andrija Živković are both ineligible.

Tuesday's game kicks off at 19:45 at the Estádio da Luz, and will be officiated by Spanish referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz.
