Cup Final Preview: Benfica x Vitória de Guimarães

Benfica Taça 2014

A win for Benfica on Sunday would secure their eleventh domestic double, and would represent their third piece of silverware this season after the Supertaça and Primeira Liga. The Eagles are gunning for their 26th Taça de Portugal crown (in its modern format). Benfica last reached the Portuguese cup final in 2013/14, when they overcame Rio Ave thanks to a solitary goal from Nico Gaitán.

Squad List: Benfica x Estoril

Rui Vitória has called up 20 players for the second leg of Benfica's Portuguese Cup semi-final with Estoril. The Eagles have a 2-1 lead to protect, and if they prevail, they will face Vitória de Guimarães in next month's final.

Benfica's coach has taken the opportunity to rest Ederson, Eliseu and Kostas Mitroglou, who are not 100% fit. Raúl Jiménez (thigh) and Jardel (ankle) remain unavailable, while Paulo Lopes and André Horta rejoin the squad. Álex Grimaldo and Ljubomir Fejsa will be looking to make their long-awaited injury comebacks, although Fejsa is unlikely to start.

Vitória denies Jonas injury setback after cup triumph

Benfica took a massive step towards qualification for the Portuguese cup final by defeating Estoril 2-1 at the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota on Tuesday night. Kostas Mitroglou opened the scoring in the 36th minute when he pounced on Andrija Živković’s inviting cross. The home side took just five minutes to hit back, with ex-Porto striker Kléber converting his penalty after Eliseu had handled in the box. Mitroglou continued his incredible goalscoring form to net the winner in the 90th minute, although he looked to be offside from Franco Cervi’s cross.
