São Paulo central defender, Edcarlos is still waiting for a decision from new Benfica manager José Antonio Camacho regarding his possible transfer to the Estádio da Luz. Benfica are in the middle of a crisis in defence following injuries to Luisão, Marc Zoro and David Luiz while Sretenovic has not been inscribed to play in the Liga and Brazilian Anderson looks likely to resolve his future with a move to French champions Lyon in the near future.

Edcarlos is competing with former Portugal Sub-21 defender, Zé Castro for a position on the Benfica roster. Zé Castro currently plays at Atletico Madrid, a club who still owe money from the transfer of Simão Sabrosa and who may be willing to part ways with the former Académica defender in order to settle the transaction.

Edcarlos spoke today about a move to Benfica saying "I know there is interest from a Portuguese club, but neither São Paulo nor my agent have informed me of anything. But at the time being it is a possibility."

However Marco Aurélio, a director at the club has said "we do not have a price for the player, we only recieve proposals. But any player is available for the right price."

Edcarlos (22) is a former Brazilian Sub-20 international.
