42' Cardozo

SC Beira-Mar x SL Benfica

Cardozo's sole goal is enough for Benfica to take all 3 points as they temporarily take top spot in the Liga Zon Sagres.

It was a full on start by Benfica putting immense amount of pressure on Beira-Mar. But it was the home side with the first warning when Artur saw his namesake just shoot over the bar on the 15th minute.

Garay then thought he took the lead for Benfica but the referee had already whistled for a foul.

An unfortunate error from Beira-Mar keeper let Cardozo open the scoresheet just before the half. Rui Rêgo left his line to try and clear the incoming ball but got it all wrong and Cardozo took full advantage by heading the ball into the net.

Benfica made it difficult in the second-half by not killing the game off.

Amorim had the best opportunity to do so but his effort hit the outside of the post on the 73rd minute.

The score did not change at full-time and Benfica now take a temporarily lead in the Liga Zon Sagres table.
