Rodrigo extends contract until 2019 - 22 August 2012

Benfica have confirmed the contract extension of Spanish under-21 International for a further four years and keeping the forward tied with the Lisbon club until 2019.

Following positive performances last season, the Brazilian born player received confidence from the club and put pen-to-paper on an extension which could see him stay with Benfica providing his release fee clause of €45m is not met.

In declarations to Benfica TV, the former Real Madrid player revealed his ambition and objectives for this season.

"This will be my second season here. At first I had good experience out on loan with Bolton, which I thank them for, and least season things went very well for me. I hope this season will be even better."

"I like the club, the city and fans, so I have to be grateful to the president for his effort to keep me here. I will continue working the same way with a lot of commitment. I feel good here and that's the most important thing for a player. The club has shown confidence in me and Benfica are the biggest club in Portugal and reputed club in Europe. For me this is the right club."

"I don't like making promises because first we have to demonstrate it, but obviously our principal aim this season is to win the title and that's what we are concentrating on."
