Luisão pens contract extension - 02 November 2009

Benfica defender Luisão has extended his contract by two years until 2013.

The vice-captain will now be linked with Sport Lisboa e Benfica until 30th June 2013. The defender's release fee clause has remained at €20m.

Benfica president LF Vieira announced last week the club and player had reached an agreement and only the athlete's signature was required.

The International Brazilian has also won the Portuguese Cup, Supercup and League Cup at the service of Benfica.

"It is the best sensation. It was the club welcomed me and for which I have immense affection."

"I still have many dreams to fulfil with Benfica like winning the championship and to help Benfica's name rise in Europe this season. And after, to play with Brazil in the World Cup.

"This club has been very important to me to win a place in the national Brazil squad. Benfica are a reference and is praised wherever I go."

The 28 year-old arrived at the Luz in season 2003/04 and has been the backbone of the defence ever since, having helped Benfica win the domestic league title with a key winning goal against Sporting on the 33rd match week.
