Two goals in the second half from Saviola and Cardozo seal a double victory over Everton in the Europa League.
With the first game at the Luz ending in an emphatic win for the «encarnados», Jorge Jesus' side were looking for more of the same, well, at least a victory. Around 2,000 Benfica followers made their way to Liverpool in hope for another triumph in the city of The Beatles.
Sidnei was placed in David Luiz's place and the latter was transferred as a left-back in favour of Shaffer, whilst Rubem Amorim was preferred to start over Maxi Pereira. Fábio Coentrão was also given the nod ahead of Pablo Aimar.
The first-half was balanced for both sides but Benfica came the closest with Ramires' effort being denied by the post. The Brazilian was later substituted for a groin pull but the full extent of his injury will only be examined back in Lisbon.
Di María had a wonderful opportunity at the beginning of the second-half when Cardozo played a through ball to his path but the Argentine's effort was wide above the crossbar.
Benfica took the lead after Di María and Saviola made some quick exchanges in the edge of the area before the former Real Madrid and Barcelona striker struck low to send the away fans' sector into chaos.
Cardozo doubled the lead with 15 minutes to go with a sweet left-footed volley, which was deflected straight to the Paraguayan's path.
Everton could have reduced the deficit but Júlio César insured the clean sheet with a fine save from close range.
Benfica lead the Group I table in the Europa League and it all points to a comfortable qualification for the Lisbon club.
