Benfica have secured the signing of Portugal u-18 striker Evandro Brandão on a free transfer.

The youngster, formed in the academy of Manchester United, has signed a contract valid until 2012 with the Lisbon club.

Evandro, who is half Angolan and half Portuguese, moved to England at the age of 11 and represented Mancehster United's feeder club Walsall until 2006.

Brandão trained with Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson in the main Manchester squad and had a short stint with Braga at the start of the season when he ended ties with the English Premiership club in June 2009.

"We reached a verbal agreement last week and I have signed a contract for two and a half years."

"In the meantime I will represent the junior squad. The most important is to recover the time lost and regain my competitive form. I will work hard so I can join the seniors, that's the opportunity I hope to have."
