Benfica sign veteran goalkeeper Paulo Lopes - 26 June 2012

Benfica sign veteran goalkeeper Paulo Lopes on a two year deal.

The ex-Feirense man returns to his old club where he began his career more than 17 years ago.

The 33 year-old joined Benfica in 1997 and left in 2002 without making any league appearances, but boasted a couple of years under the leadership of Michel Preud'homme, who was Benfica's first foreign and highly regarded goalkeeper.

"It's great to be back here and I feel very happy."

"As a professional I always give my best and hope to help the club achieve its aims."

"It was with great pleasure that I had a chance to work with Michel Preud'homme for two seasons, who was one of the best goalkeepers at Benfica, and I tried to learn the most from him."

Paulo Lopes turns 34 on Friday 29th June and has represented other clubs such as Gil Vicente, Salgueiros, Estrela de Amadora and Trofense.
