Benfica succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against a resilient Arouca side played on a neutral ground in Aveiro. Rui Vitória's men dominated attacking statistics with 30 shots and 13 corners but were unable to find the back of the net.

Arouca took an early lead through Roberto and Benfica seemed unable to break down an organised defensive side who began time wasting tactics immediately after. Title rivals Sporting and Porto both drew on Saturday and the chance to take a two-point lead at the top of the table went begging.
