Referee to decide ticket price

Benfica has opted for a bizarre marketing campaign where the referee will indirectly decide the price of a ticket for an upcoming Benfica match at the Luz.

The game in question is Benfica x Boavista this Saturday 31st January, where the amount of injury time given will equate to the price of a ticket in Euros for the following home game when Benfica receive Setúbal.

The conditions are that it only applies to members who are between 13 and 25 years of age and will be limited to the first 24 hours, solely for the 3rd tier on the Coca Cola stand.

Title objectives remain on target

Point of View by Chris Santos

Benfica had the luxury of lifting all domestic silverware last season and after the summer's inevitable exodus of players going to the big leagues for the big money it was always going to be tricky to match that performance.

Indeed, early exits from Europe and the Portuguese Cup mean last seasons heroics already seem so long ago. Nonetheless, even in spite of Monday nights disappointing 1-0 reverse against FC Porto sympathisers Paços de Ferreira, the Liga has been a happier story so far.

Miklos Fehér: Forever 29

It's 11 years since Benfica forward Miklos Fehér passed away and left eternal memories for his colleagues, Benfica supporters and football fans across the world.

January player exodus continues

Both Benfica and Greek side Olympiacos have confirmed the transfer of Argentine forward Franco Jara from Lisbon to Athens on an undisclosed fee.

The transfer of the 26-year-old to Benfica was confirmed on January 2010 shortly after his first appearance for the national team on a 5 year deal from Arsenal de Sarandí (ARG). The player joined at the start of season 2010/11 but never cemented his place in the starting line-up and was eventually loaned to promoted La Liga side Granada (ESP) the following year.

Bernardo Silva makes permanent move to Monaco

One of Benfica's top prospects from the Seixal football academy Bernardo Silva has made his loan move to AS Monaco permanent.

The Portuguese midfielder was loaned to French side Monaco in the summer and was supposed to return according to Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira, who made a u-turn on his word and sold fan favourite Bernando for EUR €15.75m.

Bernardo's EUR 30m clause is thought to not have been met however the sale was authorised by the club.

Benfica's deadly duos

In terms of a proverbial terrible twosome, You could say Benfica come up a little short this season. Injuries, suspensions and of course, last summers mass exodus, have meant a squad in rotation while we reconstruct. Thankfully, it seems like a new team is emerging as our fantastic form in the league continues. There's certainly a few potential double threats for the future. In the meantime, enjoy some blasts from the past!
